If any of you buccaneer types across the seas can share your knowledge on how a scurvy lass such as myself can abandon ship at LA and NYC without being forced to walk the plank, t'would be much appreciated. Also any recommendations of things to do, places to see, hostels to stay or whatever would be tops! But mostly the info on how not to killed... yeah, I got over the pirate talk, I'll turn like that.
Any suggestions for where to buy punk records/clothes/stuffs, or any more typically alternative areas to visit... shit like that. Thanx!

I recommend The Rough Guide to Los Angeles and The Rough Guide to New York City because they are hipper and less touristy than most city guides.
If you are looking for a cheap hotel in NYC, I highly recommend the Sohotel!
