I said Western Civilization specifically, I would have said civilization generally. However, like Christianity and socialism, everyone has their own conception.
"The principle function of civilization is to organize overlapping social networks of ideological, political, economic, and military power in ways that differentially benefit privileged households."- John H. Bodley 'Cultural Anthropology: Tribes, States, and the Global System'
Civilization is the adversary of savages (silvaticus, of the woods; wild; forest-dwellers), pagans (pagamus, country-dweller), barbarians (barbarien, foreigners <to Rome>
I also embrace chaos, but its really hard to explain oneself:
Joe Average: Anarchism is just about chaos, barbarism, and savage paganism.
Wildanarchist (as Humpty Dumpty): You got me their. However, none of those terms mean what you think they mean.
Chaos concerns the interdependent complexity of nature, the highly complex order of reality. A savage is simply a forest dweller. Pagans are country-dwellers and barbarians some one outside of Rome. So yes, you can say that I am a propagator of anarchist chaos, barbarism, and savage paganism. . . No, I am not blood-thirsty, violent, cruel, vicious, or insensitive, those are all traits of dignified citizens.
*sigh*
Anytime those words are used, I cringe, its chielfy used against political, cultural, or religious adversaries.
I have a couple of books dealing with Chaos Theory (actually dynamics in general) and anarchism, one entitled "Anarchic Harmony", the other unknown, both by the same author. They are lost in my derelict piles of books I am in the process of sorting (14,000+ titles). Anyway, one has an introduction by RAW. They had an early influence on my thoughts on the matter, but I can not for the life of me tell you what his stance is (as opposed to my own conclusions).
