just picked up the 'tegan and sara' disc 'if it was you', and damn i love those girls. they make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. kinda like a whiskey sour, but without the oomph.
Anyway, the business is webhosting. I started up in late February and I've been chugging along ever since with all of the small problems that always come up. I have a few clients, I'm getting a fair bit of money in soon (actually, enough that I'll get pretty much 90% of the money I put into this back, an excellent ROI), and everything is about to take off. I'm almost finished tweaking everything so I'll be able to open the advertising floodgates and everything just really seems to be moving along really well. I have 10 customers so far, all by word of mouth, and the annual right now is at $1000.00. Not too great, but my income is going to be taxfree for a while, and when it becomes taxable, I'll just expand and form a c corp to split my income between me and the company and protect it from being taxed for even longer. After it gets high enough again, I'm bringing my fiancee (Kayla) in, and I'll bring down the average income once again.
A lot could go wrong, but less and less can every day. It's getting closer and closer to actually seeing the light of hiring enough people to manage it and STILL make money without myself spending much time involved. After that point, I plan on continuing to invest (I still see this as an investment) in projects I think to be profitable, and hope to roll all of the subprojects into one big company and manage from there. I want office space within a year, and a 'real' corporate HQ within 5. I think it's doable, and I'm certainly on the right track.
It's very rare for someone to just consider their dream, go after it, and get it without many problems (I've already been plaqued by them, but all of them have since been resolved) - so I feel OK about the fact I might not make it, or that this all sounds awfully assuming. At this point, it's supposed to.
