Good one to vent a bit. I'm 30 now, living in the Netherlands, and dropped out of a PhD in epidemiology/bioinformatics to work remotely for a company in the US. This has been great. Pay is wonderful, approx 130k/year. My official title is something like Senior Data Scientist. I work mostly on the application of machine learning and natural language processing to clinical study data....

This is more of a rant I guess. This has a text box, that's close enough for me.

I was born in 1988, I'm officially 30. While technically I never got to see the birth of the internet, I remember it differently sometimes. More nostalgically. The summer that never ended. When I was in my adolescent years, I chatted with dozens of people a day....

“So this is it, isn’t it? This is where it ends?” “I guess so,” she whispered barely above the noise of the people gathering around the water truck. “You know, this would be an excellent time to say ‘I told you so’, but I’m not sure it would be funny this time”. 58º N, backlit by wildfires. The sound of people jogging for position...

So here are two ideas I've been playing with (disclaimer: my current position is that climate change is already beyond repair, these are just my best two guesses at solving part of the problem)

Option 1:

  • Use heliostat solar ("molten salt" solar) to generate heat in desert coastal areas
  • Use the majority of the power to desalinate ocean water (this is a relatively cheap thing...

Right, so this will probably come across as self-centered an pathetic. But it’s what I feel right now. I’m a 28 year old male, have a significant other, good income, and an education in Artificial Intelligence and Epidemiology (PhD drop out to start my own business). So nothing to be ashamed of, I don’t think. I run a small team, with nice, friendly, competent, and...

I have 27 and almost on the same pattern as you are. I studied computer science and media. Now I work with media, a little computer science, as a model and sometimes as a model on castings for commercials. The whole time I just think of stuff like that. Why do we even botter to make commercials to sell beer for example? I studied it. I know how the brain works and why someone buy some beer because of the commercial. But whats the point? Money. Isn't that a shitty point of living? It is. It is so silly and shitty that I mostly laugh about why we are alive and what we are doing. Most things are ridiculous and doesnt make sense. Even the big things. Like having children. I wouldn't. I don't want to. Never. It doesn't makes sense and its kind of too much ego to want so, in my opinion. My family came from a templar (yeah the knights) point of view and all my life i went to these religious enconteurs thinking "why the fuck would god want us to eat some bread and drink some wine and say blablerish shit about him? is he so human?". I get you.
