A friend of mine went to a baby shower the other day, and I was thinking to myself "Why don't we have abortion showers?" Take a girl that decided "You know, I'm just not ready/financially stable/in the mood/etc to have a baby." and buy her liquor and cigarettes and all the other shit she couldn't have if she was pregnant. I mean seriously, I would think that someone who didn't want a baby and had an abortion would be just as glad as the one who DID want one and continued the procedure. And if you're going to have an abortion shower, and you're buying the mother-not-to-be some smokes, I'd suggest American Spirits, cause they already come packaged in yellow and powder blue boxes. A nifty little play on the whole baby colors thing. I'd like to see this put into action. A non-dad goes into the office with a box of cigars that say "It's not a boy!"

Why is it we only celebrate things that are considered "good" in our society when in reality what's good to one person might suck to another or vice versa? I don't know about you guys, but I'd like to remember a day and raise a toast to the day Steve Irwin died. Not because I liked the guy or enjoyed his shows, but because he's one of those people that stands up in front of all the sensible people and portrays humanity in a fucked up light. I think whenever we lose someone like him, or a Britney Spears, or a New Kid on the Block, we have as much of right to celebrate as when someone does something really genious. I mean say someone invents some new cure for ass cancer. We as humans celebrate as one that our species has made another breakthrough and has elevated itself to a new level. Think of humanity as a hot air balloon. The people who elevate us as a whole are the flame that goes up into the balloon and makes the whole thing rise. The people who dumb us down with shit like "Genie in a Bottle" and "Friends" are the weights on the side. Sometimes, you can get a bigger rise by cutting the weights loose than by dumping hot air into the balloon.
