Dilemma time!

I've been at my new job for one full week today. The people are great, the benefits are great, and it's the sort of place where I could really build a future. They encourage long term employees, and spend quite a bit on training and such, in fact, they're the reason I would be going to Memphis next month. However, the commute is absolutely horrifying. It's seriously worse than anything I experienced in Southern California. We signed a one year lease at our new house, and my husband's office is near the house, so moving isn't an option for at least a year.

Today I was offered an interview for a Sales, Customer Service and Support position by a software company much, much closer to my house (the commute would be twenty minutes, tops). I'm very well qualified for the sales part of it, but not so much for the technical part of it. The salary is higher, and in fact, with commission would be higher than I was making in Southern California. They also offer training.

The problem is that I would actually have to quit my current job to get to an interview with these new people, since I'm not eligible for sick time or vacation for six months, and the commute time makes it impossible to get to the new place during business hours. We also blew through all of our savings just getting up here, so being without a job for more than another week or two would make things very, very difficult.

What would you do? Do I stay with the stability of the current job, or do I risk it for the potential of a better commute and more money?

Have you decided anything about the jobs, yet? I hope everything's going well.

Quitting a job without having a new job always gives me the willies. Do they have a local equvilent of a Thomas Guide for that area? Those things are golden.
