seed crystal... it's uh... it's the crystal you start with when you're growing crystals in crystal salts... You can use a piece of string... It's been a long time since I've actually done this, but basically it's like a small crystal that you put in a solution, suspended on a string or something (unless you do it in zero gravity), and as it sits in a salt bath it accumulates more material and grows into a really cool larger crystal that has the same basic atomic shape as the seed crystal... actually, I could be wrong...
