well, back to the grind on monday.

I got nights of the old republic II today, I'll be hooked on that game for a while. God I wish I could be a jedi, meh. I didn't care for the new movies though - too many crazy fight scenes and not enough REAL moxy, ya know? integrity.

At work today I was talking to a buddy of mine about movies and stop motion clay/puppet animation vs. the new CGI animation that's running rampant everywhere. I used King Cong as an example of why CGI is not only not as artistically powerfull, but kind of frightening. The whole movie, minus actors and the boat, was CGI all the landscapes, everything. There was a moment where Knog's sittling up on his cliff with the blond chick and they are admiring the beautifull sunset. It's a quiet moment and I'm musing "wow what a beautifull place" (record scratch noise here)

What the fuck! That's not real - but it just tricked me!? Impressive yes, but honestly I felt kinda lied to, and upon further reflection I
think this is just another step towards total reality confusion in American/Western culture. If I'm sitting back admiring the seeming natural beauty of something completely fake . . . I don't know. I know that movies are supposed to imitate life - and it made sence in the city scenes cus NY doesn't exist like that anymore, but oit still rubbed me wrong. I guess I'm just afraid that in nature can be just another manufactured thing and people are trained not to destinguish an image of a real place form a ficticious one that just lessons our already waning need for actual plants and rocks - things that grow and have life IN them. Just another step towards holographic trees on city streets and CGI screens along the highways depicting whatever natural lanscape that used to be there before we destroyed it for personal gain. Just another way to make our atrocious lifestiles seem ok to the masses, placation.
"Brazill" anyone?

What I love about stop motion animation is that it doesn't make the slightest claim that it's an accurate depiction of reality. In fact it revels in fantasy by creating other worlds that look quite unlike ours. We know that someone made them, it looks like someone made them. They can be a substitute for reality as a dream can, but you know your dreaming, you know it's not real.

that's all I got now - it's late

good night,

totally. But hollywood is all about fantasy and illusion. It doesn't surprise me a bit that enterentrainment is getting more artificially realistic. Soon the only plant life will be in artificial environments (greenhouses) where only the wealthy can savor the sent of a flower or get stung by a bee. Have you ever seen Brasil?

I bought some plastacene, which is a type of modeling clay that doesn't dry out. It's made for modeling and animation. I made a character, a fish man. I've been thinking about doing some stop-motion shorts for a couple of months. I am planning on making it a reality this summer. I'm getting everything ready, the fish man is just for fun. He's not a character. I love the brother's quay. Their work is surreal and purely genius. I also love the work of Adam from Tool. His ideas for their videos are incredible.

No escape. Life is always there whether sleeping, waking, or obliterated waiting to be dealt with when you are ready to deal with it.

I am blessed with a great kitty. She wouldn't let me choose any of her brothers or sisters. She's a great communicator, too. I always know exactly what she's thinking. It's a matter of whether or not I want to respond to her desires as whether or not she becomes annoying or cute and cuddly. She's pretty demanding so I promise you it's usually cutely annoying.

Some cats are people kitties and others are independant little shits that refuse to be anything other than fed and loved from a distance.
