This is another vent about Tony Abbot, so if so inclined you can stop reading ... now.
Made the mistake of watching the TV news the other night. Tony was being interviewed about many topics when the discussion turned to refugee boats. He said that his policy was the same as John Howard's, that the policy was to stop the boats. Using the soundbite method he just kept repeating it over and over like a mantra. What does this mean? He thinks everyone is plain stupid. To stop the boats would mean co-operation from Indonesia. People would have to stop wanting to escape, well, warzones and the like. Others would have to stop hopefully seeking a better life in Australia. And on and on.
The only thing that gave me a better laugh was a while back with Tony saying as PM he would have direct communications with the Customs vessels, so he could instruct them as to how to proceed. 3am Canberra time, Tony screaming down the phone 'Turn 'em back!'. I would have pitied the Customs captain.

Would it be too simple a solution to send certain 'persons' to Indonesia on a rickety, leaking fishing boat? I'm not a bleeding heart liberal but is pragmatism that far a stretch? Aaargh
