My advice to an ex-girlfriend upon her admiting that she has discovered she still has feelings for an ex other than me, and doesn't know what to do:

"I still have feelings for a large portion of the women I have dated, and some I haven't. Sometimes there's just not a whole lot you can do about it. We like to imagine that we have some measure of control over our lives, but it's not really true. God has control of it. Other people have control over it. Society, the environment, the universe at large can all have a disconcerting affect on what you eat or don't eat for breakfast in the morning. Sometimes you have to fight for everything your worth to get what you want. Sometimes you try, and none of it works, and you just have to let go of your imagined control and trust God and the universe to guide you, and lead you where you need to go. Sometimes just letting go causes everything you want to magically snap into place. Other times you come to the realization that you've poured alot of effort into wanting the wrong things, and there's something else out there waiting for you that you haven't even glimpsed yet."
