So why did I think "Where the Wild Things Are" was amazing. First, I thought the story really captured what it is like to see the world through a child's eyes. Its a weird mix of unbounded energy, imagination, joy, fearlessness, uncertainty, and loneliness. I'll be honest that this is not a plot driven movie. It is more about scenes and experiences. Secondly, the movie is visually stunning, thebest work Spike Jonze has ever done. These are not CGI monsters, they are real actors inpuppet costumes designed by the HensonCompany. It makes a difference because you seemto really sense the emotionsandfears of the monsters, each of which represents either a person is Max's life (Mom and Sister) or mixes of the emotionsand fears thatMax is trying to process. I think I was taken back at first by how amazing the monsters look and move butafter a whileyou just get absorbed into their personalities. Finally, the soundtrack by Karen O (Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs) is just a perfect marriage to Spike Jonze's visuals.

The movie is a bit dark at times and fight that Max has with his mom at the beginning of the film is intense. I would still recommend the movieas beingfor all ages. However, if you can try and go back and remember what it was like to be five years old, then I think you will be able to take the enjoyment of the movie to an entirely different level.

I'm looking forward to seeing it especially as you've given it the thumbs up as well. Thanks for the birthday wishes.
