Hrm, so, I've been recently recovering my enthusiasm for programming. It's what I originally was going to school for but for whatever reason switched it to network engineering and have been doing that for the last few years at work. I really love to program when I actually have time because it gets me in a thinking mood and I get to solve problems. I also think it would be killer if I could develop something that people use everyday with enjoyment, such as youtube, myspace, etc. I'm not really concerned about the money with it (well, money is always good but not a main motivator for me right now). I would just love to see people use something I (or a team including myself) come up with and love it. Unfortunately I get way too critical of the work I do and any given task takes me 5 times longer. I always wonder if there is a better way. I need to have it be the most efficient, secure, etc code and if it's not that, then I see myself as having failed. It's the way I go about anything in my life, if it's not perfect, I've failed.

IN my efforts to improve what I'm doing, I've been doing a lot of research about secure and efficient code. I was surprised to find that if you google "secure code" or "writing good code" like half of the results are Microsoft sites. Just kind of humorous considering they have been dogged a lot for then thousands of security/efficiency problems any of their products have. Seems they like to produce a lot of articles and books about the subjects but I wonder how much of that is reinvested back into their code. *shrug* just an observation.
