My girlfriend and I went dumpster diving the other night. Sometimes I am absolutely shocked at what people throw away, I have gotten a couple of nice dress shirts that were still in their unopened packages just sitting in a dumpster. This last trip we found an unopened package of 6 large bubble mailers, a sample packet of conditioner, a small end table cabinet, the dress shirt (probably worth about $25) and a really nice outdoor black jacket that seems to be a weird blend of rubber and polyester. It looks kind of like the jacket that the Frankenstein monster wears. Trixie found some old magazines that she wants to use for clip art. The other nice thing about this hobby is that we get to meet lots of friendly neighborhood kitty cats.
I'll probably never have to buy clothes again, except for socks and underwear, yes I do find those in the dumpster too but I don't think you could even pay me to put them on.
I've never had very much money because I detest working for some corporation that treats me like shit and drains all my creative energy, and I discovered just how wasteful people are, so much that this hippy friend of mine told me that he knows folks that live exclusively off dumpster diving. Really dedicated. And it's not just dumpster diving, there's also street sweeping and alley trolling. This year I have found a total of $60 cash on the street and in parking lots. You would think people would be more careful with their money!
I just try to be frugal and resourceful. Living under my means, where as most people live beyond their means because of credit cards. For the most part people just want to consume as fast as they can, always more, always bigger, always excessive. It's just a lack of perception on their part, how rich they really are, rich financially, but not with wisdom, intelligence or compassion.
It's sad that the big Corporations here have turned people into the consumer drones that they told them to be. Even more sad that most people do not question it, and still more sad and despairing that the "drones" will become hostile when questioned about their lifestyle. They can have it, I have always been clever enough to find my way around that sort of thing and pursue a fulfilling peaceful life.
