Yay for Dub Narcotic Sound System!
They put on a great show tonight, although not quite as good as the one I saw a few years ago in Madison. About half way through their set, I was marveling at Calvin Johnson's unique stage presence, so cool, yet completely and utterly dorky. Then Heather got out from behind her drum kit, sang a few songs, shook her booty, and played some of the mostest asskickinest bass ever. I said:
My white boy booty doesn't like to move often, but anyone with their eyes peeled tonight just might have seen it shaking the tiniest bit...this band and Holly Golightly have a knack for doing that to me, but I swear they're the only ones!
After the show I picked up a Dub Narcotic t-shirt, and their latest EP.
King chump moment #1683: Then dollface and I were at the bar, and Heather came right up next to me to get a bev. I was trying to think of something to say that didn't sound hopelessly loserish, but I ended up just smiling and giving a half-assed little wave. Oh well, I can't talk to any girls, why even try with sooper asskickin' band chicks?
Oh yeah, eccentric poetry guy was at the show, and he read a couple of poems before the band went on. He's good stuff; I got to talk to him a bit on my way to the head, and again just before he went up on stage. I went back afterward to say hi again, and ask him his name, but he was gone. For now he'll remain eccentric poetry guy.
On the El platform on the way back, I ran into someone I don't technically know, but about whom I still have a mildly amusing, entirely self depricating story. I found this very entertaining at the time.
