The short nap I was going to take last night ended up being 13 hours long.
scary
So much for what I was planning on doing last night. I did have a great dream, although I've already forgotten most of it. I'm considering writing it out as a proper story, but in the interest of retaining the fraction that I still remember, I'm going to put it down here in raw form.
It started out with a young girl, about 10 or so, wandering out of her house one night and being drawn to a lake miles away. There she saw these etherial snake-like creatures who lived in the water. They seemed to be communicating with her, and they all went off into the distance and disappeared together. She reappeared a few years later, and ostensibly led a normal life.
Years after that, one of her descendents (granddaughter?), a teenager, felt the same magnetism pulling her toward the same remote lake. Rather than walking there at night, she got a few of her friends together and drove there the next day. When they arrived, there was nothing unusual there, so they camped there for a day or two, then set out for home.
In the meantime, their parents had no idea where they had gone and were worried, so they sent out some people to go looking for them. The two groups met up out on the highway, and the adults forced the teenagers to stop. The kids were resentful of this intrusion on their weekend, and the freedom they felt being off on their own, so far from society. They got back in their car and took off.
Eventually they reached the ocean, and decided to camp out on the beach for a while. At night, the girl who was descended from the girl at the beginning was out walking on the beach alone, when she saw the same ghostly creatures, actually more like dragons than snakes. She stopped and was able to communicate with them for a while. I've forgotten a lot of what happened here, but they told her that they wanted to take her away, and if she found that she was unhappy with that, they would bring her back. Her friends, though, could not come with. She knew immediately that this was what she wanted, and went with them.
She was never seen or heard from again.
