i was thinking the other day that plays need safety words. well you know how some people derive sexual pleasure from being beaten, tortured, and whatnot? well of course they like to protest just as any normal person would, saying things like 'no, not the fireplace poker!' anyhow, they always have a safety word so that when some guy says 'alickyboomboomdown' you know to stop beating him because some pain threshold has been crossed. so plays need something similar. i saw a play last weekend and an actor barely missed stepping on a wine glass. but what if he hadn't missed and he began bleeding profusely? he'd probably yell something like 'oh god, please help me! i'm really bleeding! this isn't part of the play!' and you know what i'd do? not a damn thing. i'd sit there and think 'ooh, how avant garde.' so yeah, plays need safety words.
I agree on the safety words how are you suppose to know what is real or acting hmm does that make sense?
