not settled enough for a decent new entry yet, but i figure i can at least update the video.
tuesday night i kind of out of the blue wound up at a screening for the Midwest Film Festival of this film called Street Thief. filmed in Chicago by a couple of Chicago brothers, it documents the life of a real-life thief - the kind that stakes out businesses for weeks before striking.
there was a q&a with the director afterward, and he was super cool - he said they used film, but i'd thought it was digital video due to the raw, grainy quality of a lot of the scenes. very cool film, great atmosphere and tension, and funny, too. couldn't help but think of one of my all time favorites, Michael Mann's Thief. in fact, the poster for this movie is pretty much an homage to the classic 1981 crime film, set in Chicago and starring James Caan.

anyway, it was totally right up my alley and i wanted to tell people about it - it's aired once on cable, it just might again.
i am looking forward in a huge, huge way to the Yakuza show on saturday night. went to a listening party for the new album last tuesday and had a blast, the record is fucking amazing, and they're truly my favorite band in Chicago to see live right now. not only that, but late word came in that my good buddy jwgacy138 (aka realgone) is going to be opening, with his band Making Ghosts.
plus the fact that i know a ton of people that are going. you should come too! saturday night at Subterranean. get your ass out there and drink with me.
so somewhere on the backside of that adventure, i will try and return with something a bit more substantive. (although this has wound up being more than i'd planned on...) i have some plans to share a batch of music with you all, too!
have a good weekend. rock. roll.
