so the weekend rocked and left me wrecked. that's the long and short of it.
while i didn't burn the candle at both ends to the degree that madmen like jtemperance and rock stars like realgone did, the day and a half i did spend drinking beer, rocking out, and standing on fucking concrete absorbing the vibes did a number on my back. it hasn't stopped crying since Sunday morning.
some personal highlights include:
Scott McCloud of GVSB dedicating "Kill the Sexplayer" to Tim Taylor
running into Jeremy while talking to Ben only to find out he and Ben are roommates. w'nuh
dancing myself blind to !!! and still seeing the city skyline in the distance
realgone texting me Friday night to tell me he was hanging out with GWAR
Larry's hilarious self-deprecation during Pegboy's set
Killdozer bringing the weird vibes and causing a fight to break out
bumping into David Yow seemingly every 20 minutes for most of Saturday
Negative Approach. holy shit. i missed the boat on these cats. i need to catch up.
fantastic t-shirts on display everywhere
Big Black's mini-set - even though you could tell they really didn't want to do it. but by the time they played "Racer X" they were sounding HOT. too bad it ended there.
but tops, and i could have probably told you this would be the case even before the weekend happened - was Scratch Acid's fucking insane high desert frightening heavy psychedelia. i never thought i'd ever get to see them, and here we are as the sun goes down... not only do they do "Cannibal" two songs into the set, and let Yow stumble around with a pair of drumsticks during "Albino Slug", but they ended with "El Espectro" and were the first band of the weekend to get called back for an encore. "Mary Had A Little Drug Problem". blown. away. i was.
and i guess my lowlight would be my pussing out on Sunday entirely. i don't know what to say. i meant well, but it was rainy and cold, my back was screaming at me, and there really wasn't much other than Three Mile Pilot that i didn't think i'd get another chance to see soon or regret missing too much. Pinback, i'll get you on the flipside, dudes. sorry.
so yeah, recovery mode has been in full effect the past few days. lots of couch time while the wifey and i watch the Freaks and Geeks set. that shit is dope.
i'll be fully re-charged in time for the Mastodon / Converge show on Thursday, you just watch.

oh, and i'd be remiss if i did not mention how excited this new AnnaLee set made me:

i've been floored, fucking mesmerised by every one of her sets. and she looks more stunning than ever in this one. just incredible.

its true that live music usually does make everything better. And it did, in this case! They were interesting and fun and mega cute.

Hope y'all are having a good week! I'm hoping to see a show or two in the next month; Mojave 3, Detroit Cobras, Yo La Tengo...
