"LaFawnduh is *the* best thing that has ever happened to me. I'm 100% positive she's my soul mate. Don't worry Napoleon, I'm sure there's a babe out there for you too. Peace out."

Given the season n' all the associated traditions I've been pondering the nature of desire. You see as a aspiring Buddhist one of the cornerstones of the faith is that desire is the root of all life's' suffering, fairly straight-forward. On deeper thought it's believed that desire is actually a distraction created by the mind to deter the individual from the fact that every breath has the potential to be the last, a real "sword of Damocles" type scenario. And rightly so, how could anyone deal with the ever-looming threat of dying perched on one's shoulder dawn to dusk? So to condense: your mind fights against the reality of death by inventing "needs" to keep you focused on other things. So given the round-about logic of the whole situation it would seem to me that just embracing mortality and carrying on with the time your allotted would be less overall strain. I don't think one should or can live completely without desires, if it weren't for some unseen force motivating us chances are as a species we'd have never left the trees (or the oceans for that matter). And the thought of living in the absence of some yearning here or there seems a touch too stable of the average Sapien. I think for this holiday season I will attempt to recognize the "burning wants" that are triggered by "half-off" stickers and blinking lightsI'll simply enjoy what I have.
