We had to address the issue at some point so here I go. Although from pictures you may or may not have seen I may appear to look as a common lumberjack, I must admit that beneath the dissheveled exterior lies the akward gait of a nerd. So given no inspiration as to what to type tonight I would bear all. My all time favorite Science-fiction character is: The Predator.

This is where the 1/8 academic nerd supplements the 1/4 science fiction nerd as to why I find this guy such a badass. In our culture progress is judged on a upwards/linear scale, everything we have gained through natural selection is seen as preparing us for some super transitional phase in which we reach the peak of our genetic tailoring. Example is the popular view of EBE's (aliens), in most writing they are protrayed as highly advanced in technology as well as culture. Themes of vegatairianism, pacifism, telepthy, harmony...and so on and so forth run rampant, and these are all the same qualities that as a group humanity laments not sharing in. And of course looking back a scant few thousand years see can see the polar opposite was the norm for the "naked ape", our very inseption as a species is soaked in blood and battle. We yearn for what we cannot have while disregarding what brought us here.

That's why I dig the Predator so much, in him is displayed a creature that accepts and intergrates advanced technology into day-to-day life, and yet see no shame in the struggle that shaped him and his niche. The species has advanced to a level present day sapiens can only dream of and yet holds "primitive" virtues such as the hunt and the kill as the glue for their society. Bottom line: you can't go anywhere if you don't know where you've been.

And besides who hasn't wanted a shoulder-mounted laser cannon at some point in their lives?
