Welcome to Winter on the Prairies

We eat. We hibernate.

I have not worked out for a week, and I can feel the syrupy laziness and depletion of serotonin in a HUGE way. The thought of posting a journal, or replying to comments just seems like a tremendous insurmountable task. Apparently, though, I have the ability to ogle naked girls, such as the lovely Sinope, the bright spot of today.

As well, I have exhibited the ability to sit around and eat massive quantities of iced gingerbread and watch movies. To this end, I finally saw Dead Ringers. I'm a huge fan of Cronenberg. I can't believe I hadn't seen it until now. Odd to see Cronenberg examine the monster inside the psyche instead of just the flesh. It's a compelling portrait of madness, a topic which is uncomfortably close to me having had a brush with insanity myself.

I rented Dead Ringers, Snow Walker (which my mom and I enjoyed watching together), and The Sweet Hereafter. And I reintroduced myself to two old favourites: Say Anything and eXistenZ (which I'm actually going to rewatch tomorrow night).

Perhaps tomorrow, after my mom leaves, I'll go for a long winter walk after work (alliteration!) Maybe when I get back, I'll feel refreshed and focused, instead of empty and used up like a soggy paper bag.

I did a new york times crossword tonight, and was annoyed by how many answers lingered at the edge of my memory but seemed unreachable. My brain felt old. I can accept the sagging tits and stretch marks. I can accept complete out of touchedness with modern pop culture. I cannot accept a flabby, slack brain. blackeyed

Edit: On reflection, Cronenberg delves even deeper into madness in Spider, a movie which thoroughly depressed me as much as I admired it.

I'm not much for movies, but I did like eXistenZ a lot.

If you have a working definition of beauty, I'd be very pleased to hear it. That might even help in keeping your brain taut and flab-free wink
