I just got back from the Sadies with the Leather Uppers opening. My feet hurt from dancing; my hands hurt from clapping; my throat hurts from hollering; my face hurts from smiling.

If you have a chance to see Toronto's The Sadies, GO. The combination of exquisite musicianship, a hardworking attitude and sheer humble politeness charms you inside of a few minutes.

The Leather Uppers, also from Toronto, opened the show with what sounded a little like classic nyc punk. They consisted of two becaped members playing guitar and drums. Half way through their set, they switched instruments. They had me pogoing to part of it. After the show as I was leaving they asked me and my friend to a party, but at that point I was ready to come home, write a journal and sleep. They said they are coming back to town soon. I can hardly wait to dance to them again. It was like the aural equivalent of happy crystal meth.

The front men of the Sadies, the tall cadaverous Good brothers, are amazing to watch. One one side you have Travis Good, contorting his face and completely losing himself in the music, singing with a deep snarl in his voice, playing guitar and fiddle like the devil was chasing him with a pitchfork. On the other side of the stage, Dallas Good, dressed in a suit with a skinny tie, hair hanging into his eyes, singing alternately deep and sonorous, and then sweet and angelic. Dallas has a bit of the zombie undertaker thing going on, deadpan and formal. He has the stage manner of the boy you long to bring home to mom. love

The rest of the band play like they live for it. The drummer is so good, you don't notice just how good he is.

They did a full set, then two encores. Their first encore was 10 songs! They covered Johnny Cash, The Ramones and The Guess Who, playing the first two as tributes to those musicians and the last as tribute to my town. I watch Dallas Good politely undo a couple hecklers with good humour and manners.

I think at one point I turned to my friend K and said "This is the Devil's country band."

I feel endorphins coursing through my body. I'm utterly fucking high on music. I wish I could adequately describe how amazing this band is live. I think you'll have to check them out for yourself.

Hell Yes. I'm feeling yer notions on those damn Sadies. If they hit the auto & glass belt anytime soon, I will definetely be in attendance.

What kind of dude would have the audacity to heckle The Good Brothers? It's not as if those boys are Travis Tritt or anything equally heckle-worthy. Hopefully, it was a playfull heckling.
