Outside another yellow moon
Punched a hole in the nighttime, yes
I climb through the window and down the street
Shining like a new dime
The downtown trains are full
With all those Brooklyn girls
They try so hard to break out of their little worlds
You wave your hand and they scatter like crows
They have nothing that will ever capture your heart
They're just thorns without the rose
Be careful of them in the dark
Oh if I was the one
You chose to be your only one
Oh baby can't you hear me now
-Downtown Train by Tom Waits
I had a pretty wonderful night. I hooked up with my friend T. We went to my favourite record store and got tickets for Sunday's show at a local punk bar of Fly Pan Am (members of Godspeed You Black Emperor) and Japanese noise band Mono. I picked up The Sadies - Stories Often Told.
Oh my. It's brilliant. To quote the blurb on their label site: This is The Sadies' fourth album, and it's full of spooky campfire wails, dusty western trails, garage rave-ups, lounge time cool downs, and psychedelic adventures.
We went out to see Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman afterwards. I enjoyed it. It was engrossing, bloody, funny and campy at once. Who's expecting tapdancing numbers in a samurai movie? The soundtrack looks to be phenomenal. I may have to pick it up as well.
I think it's time to sleep. I'm sleeping with a smile on my face these days. The boy I like very much likes me back.
