Two months later finds me with a peeling sunburn, depleted bank account and a case of mild depression, the last element a result of seeing surly again, then having to say goodbye to surly again.

Surly's mum organized a trip to Kauai for his family to be there for his dad's memorial. Surly's brother L arranged for a local fishing boat to take us out near a lighthouse built the same year surly's dad was born. As we arrived at the docks at around 7 am, the fisherman was marvelling at how placid and calm the water was.

As we motored out of the harbour, the morning breeze off the pacific ocean bathed us in pure fresh air. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, everything sparkling with sunshine.

When we got to Pop's favourite spot, we stopped and the fisherman gave us flowers from his garden for us to throw in the water, bird of paradise and ginger flowers. Surly's brother braided some beautiful tropical leis together, which he put in the ocean with their father's ashes. We watched the flowers float away. It was indescribably lovely.

I can't think of a better way to say goodbye to someone.

Surly's mum ensured that the rest of our week in Kauai was filled with all sorts of activities and outings, including a trip around the Na Pali coast on a catamaran. surlyclown has posted some pictures in his journal of the catamaran trip.

Then it was back to LA for a few days. We managed to hook up with some friends and have a game night. Saturday we went on the annual SG Disneyland outing, which was a whole bunch of fun.

Sunday morning before I had to leave, I woke super early and had a good cry when surly was still sleeping. Then I tried not to be a suckface for surly. We both try to be really good about not losing it when we say goodbye as that makes it just that much harder. We went for lunch and wrote a pile of thank you and christmas cards jointly which managed to help us not dwell on the impending departure.

As he dropped me off at LAX, he kissed me a bunch of times as we stood in the loading zone. I didn't want to let him go. robot

I can't get past the cityness of cities. I'd be someone else if I could, I think. I need quiet and air and natural light. Hey ho.

Hey. Been a while. Hopefully I'll be on the road tomorrow, but that's assuming everything goes right...

Sorry I didn't get to see you at Disneyland. I really wanted to go, but I wasn't invited...
frown Oh, well. Hopefully I'll get to meet you at some point whenever you move down here. We'll have a few beers and I'll wrestle SexyBeast in a miniskirt for your amusment.

That's just how I roll, y'herd?
