It's odd. I was glancing through imdb and noticed an entertainer who'd killed himself. I clicked on the 'suicide' link and somehow got drawn into a world of Hollywood tragedy.
Well actually not just Hollywood, it seems actors the world over are a fragile, suicide prone bunch. Some of them gave up on life with barely any credits to their names. Others pulled the plug after a string of hits, victims of fame perhaps? One Swedish actor burned himself to death in a tax protest outside a Swedish government office. His death didn't seem to be a career related move.
An actor from the '30s, despondent and deeply in debt, offed himself in his barn with a rifle after two marriages didn't make him any less gay in the studio's eyes. They replaced him with Ronald Reagan.
