I present to you, my first guest blog! Enjoy..

Sometimes, you just know things are going to work out right and life will be great. Karma. Thursday was one of those times. As much I try to stay on top of the scene out here, I find myself always tracing ghosts; hearing who played the Bowery, the Mercury Lounge, Summerstage in New York. Never ever do you hear anything about cool shows here. Absolutely never. Despite this, I always check to see and always hope and pray that one day something worth guest blogging will happen here. Finally, my friends, that has happened.

The place: Largo, small little Hollywood club that seats maybe 60 people. No tickets, but they do take dinner reservations. Thats right, dinner reservations at a club. How cool is that? The only way to hear about shows at Largo is their website. Like I said, LA has no scene, no full time indie music bloggers to tip me off on this type of stuff so its all up to me. Last week, they have a new listing: Hurricane Katrina Relief Show. Click on the link and it takes you to the Red Cross websiteinteresting, but who is playing this show. My mind wonders, thinking of all the people that have played Largo: could it be the Boss? Byrne? Bowie? Fiona Apple? The ever-reclusive Tom Waits (who just so happened to be playing another Hurricane Katrina Show in NYC. Thanks NYC bloggers!)? Whoever it was, I was going to be there.

Call Largo up, make the reservations for me and 3 of my closest friends; tables were all gone, but they could/did put us on the guaranteed to get in list. $100 cash to get in. 100% of that going directly to Katrina. Not a problem, I get to help the kids and see a show. Not a bad way to spend $100. The show is Thursday and its only Tuesday. What to do? What to do?

Tuesday.

Wednesday.

Thursday. Finally Thursday. Needless to say I am not very productive at work: too much on my mind. Who is it going to be? Tick tock, tick tock, tick tockand its six and I am gone, heading off to Hollywood.

Meet my friends at the front door. My friend was the second one in line so we are assured a seat at the bar. Waiting in line, we find out that Fiona Apple and Very Special Guests will be our musical entertainment for the evening. I am ecstatic. Fiona Apple and special guest! This is going to be great.

Once in, we have a few drinks, see Greg Kinnear, Molly Sims, and some other super model (more to come on her later) in the crowd. Have a few more drinks and the show starts.

First up some comedians: Bryan something or another (as seen on Comedy Central), Paul F. Tompkins, and finally Jeff Ross. All great. If you get a chance, check them out. Then out come the Jon and John. Jon Brion and John C. Reilly (yes the actor). And then, the main act: Fiona Apple. Im not going go into details here, for I would never do it justice. If you have not noticed, a poet I am not. I have a tendency to ramble.

Post show, we are hanging out at the bar, and all of the performers are just hanging out. Enjoying a drink. I say to a drunken me, I need go talk to some of these people. Well, at least thats what I think I said. I was drunk by this point so I could be completely wrong. Go up to Fiona, tell her thanks for a great show. On par with I have been told about her, she nervously says thanks. Have a good 10 minute conversation with Mr. Brion about how horrible Katrina was and how some much history is lost forever. He was really nice. Make a fool of myself in front of Bryan (the as seen from Comedy Central guy). He asks me my name, Jason, I ask him hisDuh he was just on stage, I should know his name. Boy, did I have egg on my face.

And then I see her the previously unnamed super model. She is just standing all by herself, begging me to make a fool of myself. I cannot pass this up. So, yes, I go up to her and start hitting on her. I have been asked, Did you get a number? Did you get her name? What did you talk about? And to answer: no, no, the specifics are quite vague. The entire time, I was thinking to a drunken self, wow, this will make the best guest blog of all time! A 10 minute conversation with a super model and all I can think of is guest blogging! How cool am I? Before you answer, let me remind you, I hit on a super model. Like from the magazines. Miracles do happen.

And then home to bed a happy and content man. For not having any scene to speak of, LA has a great scene. Where else could I give money to charity, see an amazing concert with 60 of my closest friends, and hit on a super model? Not NYC- those bloggers would have been all over this one the second it was announced.

i was working tonight and wondering whether anyone was attempting to trick-or-treat at my house and then i thought of last year when i was talking to you on the phone on halloween and the doorbell rang and i freaked out because i may have had a trick-or-treater but i wasn't wearing much clothing so i didn't answer the door.

it gave me a chuckle. surreal
