it's a sad day in my world. my friend ryan fairchild from my hometown passed away this past morning.
these are as far as i know the most recent photographs of him and i think they capture his character quite well.
i had to buy him a gallon of skim milk and a cheesy bacon melty sandwich from burger king in order for him to take part in this photo shoot.
this is the first time i've lost a friend to death and i'm not sure how to feel. i feel overwhelmed with sadness now that he has passed but also feel a bit of anger. i haven't shed a single tear, which leads me to believe that i'm feeling more anger than sadness. i just want to share some photographs and video stills and memories with my SG friends who never knew him. this is perhaps my best outlet.
this is a photograph i took of ryan when he was in the hospital last summer. let me just say that this guy was amazing. when we were younger this kid owned a super high output taurus, which happens to be a midsized family car suped up beyond belief. i mean it was fast. i had driven with him, scary. anyways one night when he was high on just about everything imagineable he wrecked his car on a backroad near my house called broom road. it has been confirmed that he wrapped that taurus around a telephone pole. it's sad to say that there was also a wooden pole lodged into the side of his head. anyways, he was rushed to the hospital that night and was pronounced legally dead three times. that is what you call perserverance. that was probably six or seven years ago. last summer he had some other complications and was rushed to the hospital amd died twice more and was brought back.
one of my favorite dialogues was between my old friend dave and fairchild a couple years back consists of this-
ryan-"where's the six pack you bought at the gas station?"
dave-"your parents said you couldn't drink."
ryan, responds with a certain amount of hostility "my fuckin parents don't know shit, they know as much as the doctors know, they said i'd never walk again, never talk again, said i'd be a vegetable for the rest of my life-now do you see me fuckin walkin, do you see me fuckin talkin, do you see me as more than a vegetable?"
dave: " you're a fresh fruit"
and fairchild just scowls.
this was ryans bird zeus, one of his closest campanions.
I'm not quite sure if he knew it or not but he was on his way to becoming a superstar. we had documented his life immensly and was going to be one of the stars of a video that was never released because of creative differences. the name of the video was minor infractions. it spotlighted many different characters from our hometown and the things that happened when we had free time. the movie was 45 minutes long and he took up a rather large and important part of the film.
since he had brain damage from his car accident he attained this amazing talent of being able to smoke enormous amounts of weed, drink liquor all day and never get faded. he also was a chainsmoker and consumed several pots of coffee within a day. he was absolutely amazing. that's all i can really say about it.
like i said he passed away just yesterday morning. apparently he choked on his own vomit in his sleep. at least he went out like the rockstar that he was. i'd like to take this chance to say that with the recent photographs i have taken of him will be displayed in a gallery come hell or highwater. he will be remembered. also i'm going to try and reconcile with my old friend dave and get this video project started back up again. i would hope that we can remember him by letting the photo and video work carry on his legacy.

I don't know you or your friend, but I can relate to your pain in losing a friend. From what it seems you have a lot of good memories of him, with those memories he'll never be gone from your life, though he may be gone from this world.

you know i dont know the cat at all but from what u wrote i really feel he lived and fulfilled his life time spent here and there was nothing more he needed to do it sounds like he was able to leave this life without regret, seems he was quite a charcter and perhaps he was only meant to live that long, im sorry about your lose but his impact on u will always be there, so he lives on
