Right now I'm completely ecstatic. The IMF has approved the debt cancellation deal that's been in the works for months (the plan that was championed by the Live 8 event in July). This essentially means that once the World Bank (the IMF's twin) signs off, the plan will go forward after all the papers are signed. For those who participated in the least, even just signing the electronic petition, you have helped to change the world.
The people of Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guyana, Honduras, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia will benefit immediately, but over time the global economy will feel the positive impact. Wow.
