Thanks to all who offered advice. As soon as I'd written my last entry, I'd already determined what my choice would be. I saw two options. I could stay and risk total heartbreak for the chance of being happy with this girl, or I could run away from the risk of heartbreak, along with any chance of happiness. Fuck that noise. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. While I will excercise some caution and try not to be a complete fucktard, I have no choice but to take the risk. Go ahead and shake your head all you want, Rawr_Ima_Monster, and get in a good laugh if things don't work out. But at least I'll have given it a shot.

In other news...

I murdered an alarm system. A very spendy one, at that. The house I'm staying came with an elaborate security and fire warning system. While it's no longer connected to fire departments, police, or the security company by direct phone link, it's very active and functional (my parents didn't like the system for whatever reason).

Last night, out of the blue, I was hit with a really strange and bizarre feeling. Strong enough that I had to sit down for a minute. And then the alarms went off. Holy fuck, the house is on fire! was my first thought. I started searching the house for signs of smoke or any indication of what the actual emergency was. Nothing. I went outside, thinking maybe something on the roof was burning and I just couldn't see it from inside. Nothing. I won't get into the details, but I managed to get the system to shut off and reset itself.

Early this morning, I had a really weird/fucked up dream (a bit more weird and fucked up than usual), and woke with a start. A few seconds later, the alarms went off again. I checked again, nothing. I wasn't able to get the system to shut off and reset this time. The noise is so annoying, I considered burning the place to the ground just to make it stop. After checking with the parents, I was asked to do whatever I needed to do to make it stop, even break it.

In less than 15 minutes, I'd disabled the control panel, pulled the steel tamper-proof control & communications box from the wall and clipped all the wires (it leans quietly against a box in the garage), and disconnected/disabled all 20 of the alarm/sensors throughout the house (the fuckers all had their own redundant backup systems designed to go off in the event that their connection to the control boxes was interrupted). Tamper-proof my ass.
