It's hard to craft any kind of update when I still don't quite understand things myself. Instead, I'll tell you about a few new songs I've been listening to. Check them out, and feel free to tell me about a song or two. I'd love to hear from you...

New Order - Krafty
The new single from one of the greatest groups ever. The new album comes out in the US at the end of April, put it on your radar. It's electronic and amazing and I love it.

Nine Inch Nails - The Hand That Feeds
New Single from NIN. On itunes now for 99 cents, electro meets industrial in a really commercially accessible way. In a lot of ways its groundbreaking, the album With Teeth will do a lot of good things when it arrives on May 3rd.

U2 - All Because Of You
Clever clever song - it's pop and it's rock and it's infectious in many
ways. I've been playing it since last fall and it just keeps growing on me.

Billy Idol - World Comin' Down
I first heard this at the Inland Invasion concert last fall, and am very happy to hear it's on Billy's new album Devil's Playground (which dropped last week). It's been a long time since his last album of new material, and it's been worth it. It's rock and it's punk and it's perfect.

I thought the Fleiss thing smoothed over Idol well; it didn't affect him much as far as what I saw. It was mostly not being able to support the projects that were out there & then not being able to follow up quickly enough for the market (during recoup, I assumed). Too bad really...the pop stuff always was the pop stuff - good music, & competitive against the top 40 fluff. But there was other stuff. Experimental (always early with new technology), and he has a strong understanding of what makes good blues. That and a heart of pure rock n roll makes for a deadly combo.

I haven't heard the new stuff. I'm looking forward to it.

I think the reputation earned during the Fleiss thing was largely due to the fact that a scapegoat was needed & he didn't care whether people knew that he was a sexual being or not. He just took it, and didn't think about the further political consequences. To be honest I admire this behavior in people. Strength of personal character is something that I strive for, want to be around & look up to.

But, yeah, the MP3 thing really rustled some feathers. Too bad, too. In a business sense, it's not the perfect formula, but it pushed towards the question of "what is"? Something needs to get figured out, 'cause the die is cast.

The album one of the ones on "my list." so to speak. & don't slam covers! wink I love covers. Something about how the humanity of the individual is relayed in the differences of choices...I dunno.
