New Year's Eve was incredible. I'd say that it was beyond words, but I'll take a stab at it and throw some words out there anyway. Just know that I'll hardly do justice to the evening.
The Sea Of Dreams... an amazing costume ball held at the Park Plaza in downtown Los Angeles. This wasn't something where the place had been rented for the evening and a few DJ's played Kool & The Gang's "Celebrate" at midnight. The venue had been transformed over a period of weeks. Every ballroom was rented. And decorated. And filled to the brim with some of the most talented DJ's, musicians, performers, and artists in the City of Angels. That's right - in a city swimming with creative talent, some of the best and brightest were giving their all. The people attending were there to be a part of it - everyone was wearing amazing costumes, everyone looked fantastic. As an energy sensitive person, let me tell you that the energy level in that place was fantastic.
Some of you may understand this, some of you may not. It was like being on the playa.
Somewhere during the course of the night I severely twisted my leg while navigating some stairs, but in the state I was in it would be a dozen hours before I'd feel the pain. Shortly after three, a handful of my friends and I slipped out and made our way back to Space Island. Our contribution to the new year was to play host to an after-party.
On one hand, hosting an after-party seemed like folly. How can you possibly hope to properly follow an event like the Sea Of Dreams? We weren't out to top anything, but instead our motive was to have a relaxed atmosphere where people could spend time with each other, have another drink, another dance, and welcome the first new day of the new year. I feel lucky to be able to help make it happen.
Getting things going took more effort than I would have liked - the outdoor sound system resisted our efforts, and only with the help of several amazing people did it finally come together in time to greet the sun.
I saw countless good friends. I got to know acquaintances better. I met people I've been wanting to meet... While there was no romance other than exchanged smiles and flirtation, I'm quite happy with that for now.
I'm home, and recovering from some seriously strained ligaments. The party's over, but I still feel rejuvenated, I feel creatively inspired. I'm going to be more decadent in 2005 - and by more decadent I mean better at it, I'm going to enjoy life more. There will be hard work, I'm going to drive myself to do things that a year or two ago I never would have dreamed that I could do. This is going to be an amazing year.
