This has been an incredibly crap week for me. It's led to even more sleeplessness than usual (I wish it were merely insomnia lol), as well as wild mood swings. Name the emotion, I've felt it intensely in the last 5 days. Really.
Strange, too. I came out of halloween feeling absolutely giddy and amazed at the success of the event we had at Space Island (I don't think of them as parties anymore - more work and preparation and creative expression goes into them than most live productions I've seen). And only four days notice, too - not bad. I'll post pictures here soon. Then Monday was just a springboard into haywire. And here I am at some ungodly hour, still awake, still trying to kill off the week.
Turning to more positive thoughts, I positively love the trailer to Revenge Of The Sith. I'm an admitted film geek. Not the snobby kind that only digs the art-house flick, but I love the popcorn movie. And I'd stay up all night long defending both the original trilogy and the prequels, I've known the rough outline of what happens in Sith for more than 25 years, I'm dying to see it come to life on the big screen. Even if the movie sucks, it's got two things that I love... one is my favorite villain of all time, and it's got what you call NOT your typical Hollywood ending. And no, I'm not giving anything away really - if you've seen the beginning of the original Star Wars, you know where things are when Sith ends.
Also positive - the current single from U2 keeps getting better and better after hundreds of listens. The upcoming album's produced by Steve Lillywhite, who produced their first three records. While the song is modern and current, if you give it a closer listen, you'll hear some throwbacks to the early sound of U2 - back in the days when the first song I heard from them was introduced as being from "an Irish punk band." The album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb drops in a couple weeks. Please consider it.
Another recommended purchase, even if it means selling your blood (or better yet, other peoples' blood)... a very special edition of The Downward Spiral from Nine Inch Nails. Regardless of your taste in music, this is a masterpiece - one of the most brilliant albums ever made. What makes it very special? It's been remastered and mixed in 5.1 surround sound. So you can drop it into an SACD player if you're a serious geek (there's a DVD audio version being released as well, you can play that in just about any DVD player) and listen to a very richly textured (as well as dark and disturbing record) as the sounds wrap themselves around you. For good measure, a bonus disc with b-sides, mixes, and demos is included. After hearing this album for the first time in 1994, I had nightmares for days. It went on to become one of my all time favorite albums and one of the many reasons I love music as much as I do. When it comes out I'm going to get it, then go home and sit in the middle of the room and just listen to it again and again. I'm a big dork, but you already know this and I don't care.
Other than that, I don't have much to report. I'm determined to wrap up production on the DVD project I've been working on, so I can send it to duplication. A dear friend is having a birthday shindig tomorrow night (with a 70's/80's porn theme, should be good) and I've volunteered to help in any way I could (she's got me working door/security of all things.. watch out, trilobytes can be dangerous).
Sorry it's not a nice, simple to read sound byte of a journal. As you know, I write it as much for myself as for you. If you've read this far, thank you and I'm sorry you didn't have something better to do. Comment if you like, let me know how you are.
