Thursday was an interesting day, to say the least. Work was grueling, all the end of month urgent projects and the frustrations of various other departments came to a head to basically provide a swimming pool's worth of work to get dumped into the pint glass of what I could get done in a day lol...
A few friends, chatting through IM or email, helped me keep my sanity (or whatever it is that passes for it). I also got a couple random "how you doin?" type messages from a couple girls - very flattering and completely unexpected. And late in the afternoon a good friend hit me up to insist that once my workday was over I come over his place to hang out and help him drink all his Gray Goose. I love my friends!
Before heading over to my friend's place, I was determined to make one final search and rescue attempt on my mobile. It'd been missing since the party last weekend. Several people had been encouraging me to just call the cell phone company and bite the bullet, but I couldn't do it. I know I was at a party where a couple hundred people had passed through the doors, but I couldn't believe that someone there in the post-dawn hours on Sunday would have taken the phone intentionally or maliciously.
So I headed over to Space Island and checked out the pirate ship. Nothing. Damn. I frantically dug through the couches and DJ rig out in the yard, with no success. Just as I was about to admit defeat, I pointed the flashlight under the ship and checked under the gangplank. Voila!
I'm happy for a few reasons. Not only because I've got my phone back and don't have to deal with the hassle and expense of getting it replaced, but it reassures me of my faith in the friends and community in general (the friends of friends and masses that show up at these events). So despite anything that happens today, I'm feeling very good and in great spirits.
On Tuesday, the new album from Fatboy Slim comes out. Go get it - trust me, it's excellent. Several standout tracks, I really really like what I've heard.
And if you're in Los Angeles, let me give you fair warning. October 16th and 17th will change your lives. The 16th is the Burning Man LA Decompression party (part street fair, part festival, part reunion). To celebrate, my friends at Space Island are not only taking out the Space Wench (the pirate ship I so fondly speak of), but they're throwing a massive event at their downtown warehouse facility. In conjunction with El Circo (one of the most amazing camps at Burning Man, they're based in Oregon), they're putting on an event called Visions. There will be art, video installations, a fashion show, dancers, and some of the most incredible music you'll ever hear (prepare to dance your ass completely off). It will start around 10 on Saturday and go until Sunday night. I'm doing one of the video installations, that should be interesting. More details as everything gets firmed up.

all i can say, is i have wonderful stories from my side of things... and i have probably more reason to want to murder.
i am glad you found your phone.... that is AMAZING... but i wouldn't expect anything less from a rock star.
