A more detailed account of m weekend may (or may not) be in order...

Friday night was relatively uneventful. I had intended to go to the birthday party for Karis of Mutaytor, but alas it wasn't in the cards. So Pearl and my friend Sara Rose and others went and had a great time without me, I'm sure.

Saturday I had a pretty solid plan. Housework and cleaning and stuff in the morning, then go to the GardenLAb exhibit in Pasadena with Aiisa and a few other friends, take a disco nap, make a quick stop at my friend Courtney's birthday, then head to the re:connect LA event at Space Island.

It seemed like a reasonable plan, not too optimistic or anything. Well, cleaning the patio closet took much longer than expected, and with such great weather I found myself considerably hotter and sweatier than I expected. By the time I finished, I was 90 minutes late for the art exhibit. D'oh! Showered and disco napped, then got a call from my friend TechnoRama, who needed a hand getting gear set up for the party. So we headed to Space Island a few hours early and I wound up missing yet another birthday party. Again... D'oh!

But re:connect LA was a huge success, turnout had to be a hundred and fifty people which is pretty damned good for only three days' notice. But then, the location has a reputation for hosting some killer events, so I shouldn't be too surprised. So many friends turned out, it'd be impossible to name everyone, but it was fantastic seeing DaveUnderTheBed, reprobate, and Seether in the mix. Patricio played a great set, but the projections went over so well half the dance floor was paying more attention to the Burning Man pictures than they were to his set. Oscure and the rest of the LABA crew tore it up the rest of the evening, I swear I danced my ass completely off at one point.

Cheers to Dr. Magma and Lady Lava and company for a fire performance that blew me away.

Many Skyy & Red Bulls (not my usual drink, but it seemed to work) and many great conversations later, a few dozen of us found ourselves welcoming dawn to the musical stylings of Armando, who kept people dancing long after we should all have been sleeping. It was probably around this time that my cell phone went missing. D'oh! It's either on the pirate ship someplace, or someone mistook it for their own and took it home. Hopefully I'll get it back in the next day or two, as I really can't afford to be replacing my phone AGAIN.

As things wound down around mid-morning, a couple after-party plans surfaced. I wound up heading to the west side with my friend Tina to meet up with Marcos, Pod, Joey (who not only is a total sweetheart who drives a VW bus, but lives only minutes from my place - we're going to have to hang out again soon), Jimmy, and a couple others. Our plan was simple, which suited my state of mind perfectly. We piled into the bus, rolled on over to Venice Beach, and ran into the ocean to float around and catch some waves. Very exhilerating, and it just seemed like one long string of running jokes. Once we had our fill of the surf, we headed over to the Abbot Kinney festival in Venice, where we literally ran into 40-50 more people we knew while hitting food stands, vendor booths, clubs, and bars. Eventually of course the adventure drew to a close, and I actually made it home for a decent night's sleep.

It was a pretty random series of events - when I got home from work on Friday if I would have drawn a map of my weekend, half of what happened wouldn't even be on the map. Life continues to blow me away in that regard.

This week I need to be good. Work will be grueling, plus I'm working on a few projects that are going to suck up my time.

If any of you are LA area burners and have high resolution pictures from this year's Burning Man, I need your help. For the LA Decompression after-party, I'm helping to put together a slideshow DVD of the best pics from this year's burn to project onto the walls. While the Space Island folks and I got some excellent shots, I think it would be even better if we had some pictures from other LA area camps. Please hit me up via the contact button.... thanks!

Thanks for the kind words. Things'll be fine. Maybe one day we'll get to hang out again at some SG function!
