I've got to say, I'm a bit upset that Tookie was denied clemency.

I have no idea whether he's innocent or not. He was convicted of the murders of four people back in 1979, and while he has maintained his innocence the entire time I can't honestly say I know enough of the details of the case to come to any of my own conclusions.

The issue here isn't whether to free him, but to kill him. No, I'm not against the death penalty - in fact I'm all for it. But in Tookie's case, I think it makes sense to keep the guy alive. Keep his ass in jail, of course, but keep his ass alive.

This isn't a matter of good behavior or not causing trouble in the joint. He's done more to crusade against gang violence from his cell than most people have ever done, or will do. And I believe that if he was granted a stay of execution, he'd continue his work for peace and save who knows how many lives (both would-be gang-bangers who don't go down that road and their would-be victims). Executing him will put an end to his work towards a greater good.
