I hinted at it a couple of entries ago, but now it's essentially official. I'm going to volunteer in reconstruction efforts in Haiti starting in about three weeks. I'll be working with Hands On Disaster Response in Leogane, a small town just outside of Port au Prince that had 90% of its buildings destroyed or damaged by the earthquake. I'm stoked, humbled, and still kind...

I did not watch the superbowl. I sort of forgot it was on. In an extremely distant way, I'm glad the Saints won, just 'cause New Orleans needs a break, but really, I don't care.

Instead, I spent all afternoon in bed with my girlfriend. We have unequivocally (but very vocally) great sex. This is rare for me this far into a relationship, as one...

Wow. After a day struggling with aimlessness and a depressed sense that I can't accomplish what goals I do have, I just got some tentatively great news. News that there may be great news. Whatever. I don't want to shlap the nachas, but I've long wanted to do humanitarian work or volunteering, and may be able to do it in at least one way that...

Why do I stay up past my bedtime every single night? Honestly, I think it's a -- I dunno, an indication of a deep mental issue.

Anyhow, I've been listening to a lot of Julia Nunes' songs on youtube. Especially this one:

I feel like I'm the last person on earth to have heard of her, so feel free to move along if you have....

I just spent a few hours doing something I never do, and long said I had no interest in doing. I met an old high school friend for ice cream and drinks and had a great time catching up and flirtingly admitting we had crushes on each other 16 or 17 years ago. We've both traveled and lived abroad more than once. We both have...

Wow, it's so windy the house is shaking. If It weren't two in the morning and I didn't have to get up in 5 hours, I'd walk down to the water to get sprayed by waves.

Edited to add: This is the second night in a row a cat has sat down on my lap right as I'd decided to get up and go to...

I'm spending some time in my home town, Bellingham, Washington, while I work out some USCG licensing so I can go back to sea. What this means practically is that I've spent every night this week drinking till bar close with old friends. Which is excellent and has improved my mood a lot. The last couple of icy, deserted, alcoholic nights, I've taken my drunken...

Couple things going on lately:

Not being christian, christmas can actually be kind of fun. I did nothing for the occasion this year, unless you count eating chinese food. Mostly it was neat to walk around the deserted streets of Seattle. It was like a zombie apocalypse movie--nothing moved but the occasional buses and wind-blown litter. It was a nice relief from the pre-holiday madness....

Nothing but drinking and chinese food today and tomorrow. I'll need to stock up 'cause nothing in Seattle's open tomorrow.

Uh yeah: Edited to point out that chinese restaurants are open today, which is sorta the point.
