When one is a child, it is difficult to understand how much one's life might suck.

I've recently been reminded of how rarely I've felt truly happy about whatever situation I was currently in. One of these was my very first skiing trip. Les Arcs 1800 was perfect, even with so many people there. We were only supposed to stay for one week, but on my first day on the slopes I left the goggles off for too long, and somehow frying my eyeballs gave rise to infection. My face was all puffed up and there were eyedrops aplenty. We stayed a second week just so I could do some actual skiing, and I think the first week added to how much I appreciated skiing.

And that's why I like rollerblading so much today.

I bought a Nikon D200 yesterday. It was the last model in the shop. This may have been because they cut a third off the original price. In any case, I was lucky to go get one when I did... and somehow, shoving it into my backpack freed the zipper that had been stuck for months before now, so I don't have to get a new bag after all.

Stuck my old lens on, but haven't fiddled with it much yet. I recognise some of the controls, though some of those are in different places than I'm used to. Guess I better start reading the documentation while charging the battery, and then we'll take this puppy out for a test run.

Edited to add: Of course, using my old lens may not have been the wisest course. It's at least ten years old, and while it's auto-focus, the camera doesn't seem to actually do any focusing with it. Tomorrow I shall go back into town, weather permitting; drop off the films and visit the shop again. Maybe see the Fantastic Four movie before it disappears.

I wish I knew enough about cameras to justify buying an SLR. Have fun!
