Meanwhile, my new washing machine arrived... and could not be installed. The cold water tap is apparently frelled and would not shut off. I have to call a plumber tomorrow to fix it, because these people naturally did not have the tool to shut off the water supply to the whole house. They wouldn't even chance the flood-like properties that would be induced by trying to transfer the 'live' hose for fear of my taking legal action. Pussies.
I'm rather annoyed. God is giving me the finger, laughing his beard off and telling me I have to wash clothes by hand just one more time out of fucking spite. Well, maybe not spite. But that's what it feels like.
Edited to add: Had the plumber in, problem didn't turn out to be so bad. All sorted. Washing machine hooked up. Will give it a go in a bit and hope disaster does not ensue.
