About time for a new journal I think.
Went to see Spider-Man 3 yesterday afternoon. First movie I've seen in the cinema since Eragon, which is probably a shame because there might have been some good movies in between. I went in thinking this was the Spidey film I'd get on DVD, because it has Venom in it. I came out thinking otherwise.
A decent enough action movie, as always. MJ needing rescuing again is indeed getting old, but she slightly redeemed herself by avoiding falling vehicles of her own volition while Spidey was getting his arse kicked. My real peeve is Venom. The symbiote gets a fair amount of screentime, even if it acts like just another suit Peter can take off whenever he wants until the bell tower scene. A scientist even gets a sample of the symbiote under the microscope, but utterly fails to get excited enough about what it could possibly be.
Compared to that, Venom got about twenty minutes of screentime. I don't think it ever referred to itself as "we." And it got killed off before it even had a chance to spawn Carnage. The symbiote sfx were fun, but frankly, the cartoon treated Venom's character better.
Rollerblading against the wind half the time really drained my batteries, so I took a bath, ordered pizza for dinner and watched Casino Royale on dvd. I would have liked to see Brosnan do one more, without the fucking invisible car. But I can understand how they would jump on the first Bond story once it was actually possible to do a proper version of it, and how they needed a new guy for it, and that they chose well.
Bond movies have always been right up there when it came to stunts and such. This time they broke the record number of car rolls. Seven, if I recall correctly.
Anyone wondering if Mr. White's organisation is SPECTER?
I love David Arnold's Bond music. Currently putting together a mix from all his Bond CDs, including Shaken and Stirred in which he covers the classic movie themes.
...Fucking Casino Royale soundtrack won't play on my computer. FUCKING SONY! Gorram corporations have to learn there's no point. All they do is make it more inconvenient. I'll just record it off a CD player to a portable device and then record an mp3 from that.
On an unrelated note, don't most Americans usually spend a month in jail for driving when disqualified? Perhaps Paris Hilton gets her brains from her mother, but her lawyer can't be that stupid too, can he?
