So if you're wondering about the lack of skates, here's what happened: it was raining REALLY hard in Eureka, and they play on a concrete slab in a hangar of sorts. Either water was seeping up through the slab (Eureka is a mere 44ft above sea level) or the heat in the venue collided with the cold concrete and cause it to rain inside or something. Regardless the the track was really wet and the officials deemed it too dangerous to skate on after about 20 minutes of slipping and sliding in the first bout. Since derby girls have no quit in 'em, they decided to give the fans something to talk about and play a couple games of Sock Derby, or as it will henceforth be called...."Sorby". So enjoy the Sorby, and don't laugh because guess what: the fans stayed and CHEERED and had a great time, and so did the skaters.
