Wow, that article on Wired is great. Mad props to SG and its continued evolving.

Good news, bad news. Good news is that my friend is going to scout the neighborhood and put out fliers with Mr.Cat's pic on them. He is sort of a Kitty P.I., if you will, has had success in the past finding lost kitties, so yippee on that. I feel so helpless being so far away once again.

Bad news is that I am seriously entertaining the notion of bankruptcy and (regarding my car) VW=very worried, at least for the moment. I think that my engine fan is warped and about to come off, it's making this DREADFUL sound, even though there isn't anything else wrong. There are way worse things in life than money and car troubles, though. I've got my health and sanity (somewhat), and a job, however annoying it is. Many people have to get by on a lot less, I am very thankful for all the good things going on in my life.

So more details about the road trip. I can't say in all honesty that I have decent impressions of New Mexico, Oklahoma, Iowa, or Wyoming. I didn't get to visit Roswell or Taos, which I'm sure are much better than Albuquerque. Texas was very fun, I don't know why all of my friends said otherwise. Being the (somewhat guilty) carnivore that I am, I had an extremely lovely steak in Amarillo, TX.

A scary thing did happen on the trip back. I'm driving my poor car, and there's this gold metallic generic late-model American something or another following me for a couple hundred miles. He would inch dangerously close toward my bumper, and it appeared that he was throwing gang signs frantically, which I pretending not to notice. There was hardly anyone else on the road, mind you, and after I realized he was following me, all the rest stops after that point were CLOSED. I would slow down, then he would fall back, and then tailgate again within seconds. Finally, I pretended to use my mobile, and woke my passenger from his slumber to let him know how freaked I was. The driver took off going about 100 miles an hour. He had Illinois plates, and a tinted windshield (which I've never ever seen before) The scenario did give me that pit in the stomach feeling, anyone else ever deal with anything potentially sinister while driving?

I've been shot at on the 118 freeway in California, but that's another story. How do petite ladies defend themselves against freaky drivers/stalkers?

Ok, enough for now, I'm easily distracted, and am going to rummage around the barren kitchen for something to munch on.

Trixie

In all fairness, I don't think I spent enough time in Iowa to write it off. However, the scenery made me nearly fall asleep at the wheel. The rest area I went to was very icky, and I just recall it being one big blur. No offense *wink*

Eh, I've spent my whole life in this state, so I'd say you can write it off with a clear conscience. At least you didn't stop at the "nostalgia" rest stop in northwest Iowa. It's a barn. A big red fucking barn. I hate this state... smile
