No, I don't mean the erotic kind. I figured this site has enough weirdos on it to feel relatively comfortable talking about the bizarre internet sub-community called "ASMR" which I am particularly fond of. "ASMR," a pseudoscientific acronym standing for "Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response," is a sensory phenomenon experienced by some while in a relaxed state in response to stimulus in the form of auditory sounds, visual cues, and/or role-play situations. One of the most poignant situations where I encountered this situation was having a fortune teller read my palm or do a tarot card reading. I never really had a term for it, I just knew it caused these wonderful, extremely pleasurable, tingling "micro-seizures" for lack of a better term. One day I was browsing for Tarot card reading videos on YouTube because I was bored and really liked the feeling I would get from some of them. I came across all these videos that were "tarot card role-plays" with people just whispering. I was really confused as to what the motive could possibly be for people to "role-play" tarot cards. I was also confused as to why they all exclusively whispered. I set out to discover the source of the tarot card "role-play" videos and discovered this wonderful sub-community on YouTube making these awesome videos exclusively dedicated to creating the sensation which was the reason that I was looking for tarot card videos in the first place.

Since it's a relatively young community, it's interesting to see how people have taken to different methods and styles to approach these videos. One of my favorite is a guy who calls himself "Ephemeral Rift" on YouTube. His videos are always overflowing with an "in your face" humorous but calming surrealism. Some of his videos are too funny for me to get relaxed enough to experience this phenomenon (I really wish there were a scientific term for it as I'm uncomfortable using a pseudoscience term to describe it) - but in general it's been quite funny and relaxing to see the stylistic adaptations he has made to this subcommunity. One of his most amusing ones was an 8 part video series that were each one hour based around the premise that the viewer has an unfortunate condition of a plastic bag fused to his head.

Another person who has adopted a more artistic form of presentation is someone who calls herself "Ardra Neala." And she deserves a fair amount of credit for the awesome work she's done making that community pretty artistic:

Anyway, for those of you who have no idea what this stuff is, you may be familiar with the sensation that I'm discussing and be thrilled if you did not already know that there are people dedicated to eliciting the experience. However, it seems that there is a relatively large portion of the population that insists they don't get this sensation the rest of us report. After reviewing the profiles of the kind of people who make the videos, I'm pretty confident stating that you have the most chance of enjoying these videos if you are of the INFP Myers-Briggs Personality Temperment as it seems that nearly many makers of these videos have that general disposition.

Enjoy fellow oddballs!
