DAUGHTERS OF BASTET _ 4 YOUR EYES ONLY

- If you don't mind, I'll call you Mysterious Stranger. Or, shorter, Ms.
Obviously, she was not amused. She had probably sneaked in while I was discussing with the postman, and her silent presence could have remained unnoticed if she hadn't immediately started scratching the back of the couch.
She had jumped on the coffee table and now kept staring at me with a dead serious look. Some kittens have a sense of humour: apparently this one hadn't, or maybe she was very good at concealing it. On the other hand there was one thing she couldn't disguise: her gender. She was the most feminine thing I had ever seen walking on four paws. She raised her right front paw and gave a small blow to the package I had set down in front of her on the coffee table, as cats use to do for testing if objects new to them may or may not be used as toys.
-OK, with your permission I will check this package.
I was desperately trying not to look embarrassed., and pretended not to pay attention to her while cutting through layers of paper and plastic. She stayed perfectly quiet as I unwrapped the ovoid thing. The balsamic smell was now almost inconvenient - the distinctive fragrance of myrrh. I put a finger on the thing - it was lukewarm.... no, it was warm.

one of my little hobbies--interests--whatever--is hooking folks I know up with books they might like, but might not have come across...dunno if it'd be available where you are (it's not where I am--but I could probably dig up a copy if pressed), but I think you'd like "WLT: a Radio Romance" by Garrison Keillor.
