After some rainy weeks, some sort of Indian summer finally showed up, although no Indian ever lived where I live.
Well... almost no Indian. I found out James Welch wrote last year a book (The Heartsong of Charging Elk) about an Indian who was, in the times of Buffalo Bill Circus, stranded on our distant shores ...
I can confirm for you James Welch readers this novel is (loosely) based on a true story! At least one Lakota Indian (maybe more) leaved Buffalo Bill's company, settled in Marseilles... and finally become part of the Marseillese folklore. A grand-aunt of mine insisted she remembered perfectly that strange guy who lived on the heights of the Quartier Saint-Jean, and used to step down every morning, be it winter or summer, to the public fountain of Saint-Laurent to make, bare-chested, ablutions in the cold waterstream... an habit that seemed most remarkable to Marseillese natives... in these times...
