17. Keep On Moving
"You know what," Angel mused as the cab pulled up to the curb, "I think I forgot some things back at home. Could we-"
"Did you forget your ticket?" Jes cut in.
"No," Angel admitted.
"Then you forgot nothing important." The cab came to a stop and Jes threw the required amount at the cabbie, plus the extra she had promised. The cabbie took this without comment and began to get out of the car to handle their luggage.
"That's all right," Jes interjected, placing her hand on his shoulder. "We've got it."
The cabbie shrugged and sat back down in his seat. Angel rolled her eyes at Jes and got out to remove her bags from the trunk.
Before exiting the cab, Jes leaned over the seat and whispered conspiratorially to the cabbie, "When I get out I want you to speed off with everything that's left in the car."
"What?" he asked.
"You heard me. The dog, any extra bags, all of it. You can sell it all or keep it, whatever you want. I'll close the trunk as you drive off, don't worry."
"Look lady, I don;t need this-" the cabbie started.
"I don't care," Jes said, handing over a few bills. "Just do it."
The cabbie shrugged again and took the money. Jes thanked him with a pat on his shoulder and exited the car. Angel was struggling with bag number two as Jes' feet hit the pavement.
"Hurry Angel, we'll miss our flight."
"I'm trying," Angel grunted as she pulled at her bags. "You could help, you know."
Suddenly, the cabbie floored his accelerator and sped away. As the trunk passed by Jes she slammed her fist down on it and crunched it shut. "Hey you! Where're you going with our stuff?" she shouted.
Angel stood looking after the cab and her luggage, the handle from the bag she had been attempting to liberate dangling from her hand. "My things," she muttered. "My dog."
Jes stared after the cab for a time with Angel until it disappeared around a corner. "Oh well," she said, "that's that. Let's get going, or we'll miss our flight."
Angel just stood where she was, staring off after the disappeared car. "My bags, my dog," she said repeated.
"Oh, come on," Jes said tugging at Angel's arm. "There's no need for this. We're moving on. New leaf, new things right? Let's go."
Tugging Angel behind her, Jes trundled into the airport.

I'm really enjoying today, because the comments don't register right away, so I don't feel totally blasted.
