Taking into consideration the fact that I'm *such* a staunch supporter of digital photography (and digital stuff in general really...go go futuristic, erm, things!), have always been a bit of a camera geek, and use/take a hell of a lot of photography in work it still surprises me that I don't actually have a digital camera of my own :/

I think I suffer from the "knowledge" aversion to buying...you see I always know that something bigger and better is on the way, therefore think to myself "I'll wait for that to come out"...and of course just before it's released there will be rumours of it's successor that is just *so* much better...and thus the circle begins again! But it's not just that that's held me back, i'm a designer as well remember; so everthing must look right...don't forget either that i'm an incurable "feature" freak, whatever product it is i'm lusting after I will *always* be drawn to the one with the most stuff on it which is, naturally, more expensive, which in turn keeps me from buying. And then there is the whole "brand" thing to consider, where clothes are concerned I couldn't give a toss about labels as long as they look cool, alas the same does NOT hold true for technology...which means that the digital cameras I have been waiting years to own have been ones by either Leica or Contax...both appealing to my "one-up" nature, but both quite horrendously expensive for what they are. frown

And that, dear friends, is the frankly impossible criteria that I have made for myself. However I finally cast off the shackles of all that last night and, after much humming, ha-ing, to-ing and fro-ing I *eventually* found a camera that met nearly all of my criteria...here's a piccy of the sexy little beast:

My revised criteria were that it was tastefully designed (check!), made by either Canon, Olympus or Fuji (check!), small enough to fit in my pocket since I want to take it snowboarding and stuff (check!), less than 300 (check!) and that it matched the computer it was going to be docked next to (what? accessorising is important damn it! and check!)...everything after that was icing on the cake really biggrin

It's winging it's way to me now...can't wait! biggrin

Accessorizing?

Dude, you'd better go and get yourself checked for teh geigh. Serious.

I think the knowledge aversion thingie you describe is a perfectly reasonable response to tech it should always be fit for purpose and if it is it doesn't matter what else comes out you have an item that is fit for purpose. That's how I do it. I always thought mp3 players were stupid nonsense until I caught sight of the 60GB Creative Zen Xtra. And now I even have a 1GB Creative MuVo V600 because the number of times I need instant access to my entire music collection is very small.
