i was playing the gamecube resident evil last night since i'm all psyched up about beta testing outbreak and i've really gotta say, it's fucking creeping me out majorly. the first resident evil scared me so badly i couldn't sleep well for about a week. that was back in 98, and the game was pretty well lit for being set in a rundown old mansion filled with zombies and skinless frog gorilla things.

the REmake however is DRIPPING with atmosphere. capcom really knew their shit going into this. not only did it capture the spirit flawlessly of the original game, but it made the layout of the mansion make a lot more sense, and it's making me fear walking down certain halls for fear of exactly what could be there. and the fact that they reanimate the zombies you leave and don't blow off their heads or incinerate only to come back as faster and deadlier things with claws... yeah, that doesn't help make the game any less tension filled guys. fuck a good chunk of my map is still unexplored because i'm scared of what new thing they dropped in there.

bravo RE team, too bad you didn't put the same time and attention into 2, 3, and code veronica. let's see what 4 has in store for us.
