What kind of place do i live in where a parent

Firstly doesn't know that her child is missing?

Secondly doesn't panic madly when asked if she has a son wearing only a blue tshirt and pants.

Thirdly wanders up the road smiling and wondering more how to keep her socks from getting dirty than whether her son is ok.

My Guy had just left to go and meet one of his friends in the pub ( its 9.30 pm ) and found this small boy , agad about 2 years and wearing only a tshirt and pants wandering the streets, so he rang me and i went out to be with him while we waited for the police to get there.
As we waited i kept expecting to see someone rush out of a house looking for him, but no one did.
So while we waited for the police and tried to keep him happy we tried to think where he might live.
Now luckilly my guy has lived here all his life and knows most of the families, and made a guess at where he might have come from, so i went and knocked .
the door to the main road was open , music on but no one answered when i rang the bell, knocked and then shouted.
Eventually a girl came , and smiled when i asked if she had a son and smiled when i told her he was round the corner and half way up a hill, and smiled as she strolled up there to get him, and smiled at the police as they pulled up.

How could she be like that?

I was shaking at the thought of what could have happened to him and I was just a person passing by.

What if .......

God, there are so many what ifs.

I hope she wasn't smiling after the police had spoken to her. Stupid apathetic arsehole.
