I am sore all over. Someone please give me a massage.

(That's what happens when you don't run for a while then start your running program with gusto again...)

I struggle with calling out bullshit when I see it while simultaneously not demonizing, especially with topics I get more emotional and heated about.

So I found a beautiful BMW E60 M5 that’s only four years old and about the same price I paid for my current car. Sigh…my current car is a lease, though, so I can’t swap cars for another year yet. First world problems...

I learned how to make GIFs with GIMP a few months ago, and now I can't stop making them :'D

How I Learned To Feel Undesirable

This is a nice little piece that goes a long way to show you that even if it’s “just a preference” (lmao), your preferences can perpetuate racist structures and seriously affect people on a personal level.

I have a consulting firm that’s interested me and I’m trying to do a phone interview with them but work keeps throwing stupid training (which I don’t need, because it's a rehash of the same stupid bullshit when I was in the Army) and meetings (today’s was pointless, and I could have taken the hiring manager's call today but didn't because I thought the meeting...

iggy:
Ahhh corporate bullshit...how I do not miss it. Even when I worked in retail we had constant 'meetings' and 'training' that were utterly useless, pointless, and a waste of payroll. It's like, "Here, we're gonna sit you down for a few hours and tell you stuff you already know. However, this time we're going to tell you using powerpoint presentations and pie charts!"
tmk:
@iggy Lol I hear you. Ironically, I AM trying to get into the corporate world from a different industry. I think there's bullshit wherever you go, and you just have to learn to deal with it the best you can. And today's "3 hour training" (which caused me to miss a chance to talk to said hiring manager again) ended up only lasting an hour and a half, with additional bullshit from the "boss" that nobody cares about. I really need to get out of my current field.

I’m not a Chinese American male, but I am an Asian American male, so I got excited when I first heard about Sleeping Dogs and I loved that the protagonist was a badass Asian male.

So this is what positive representation feels like, I thought. Too bad it’s so far and few in between for people like me in Western media.

Until we're treated as...

I think the same can be said for any minority, or group that's treated like a minority. I can't tell you how little I am impressed with the current onslaught of female characters in mainstream movies and television. White male characters can have nuance, but it seems that nuance and roundness of character is just not available to minorities or women. We have to serve our respective stereotypes, while white men can buck theirs.
tmk:
@iggy It's so tiring that in this day and age we have to fight tooth and fucking nail to break and challenge stereotypes because it's so easy for the (white) Western mass media to pigeonhole us into these stereotypes. I dream of a day when this is no longer necessary, though I'm not holding my breath this is going to happen anytime soon. It's like you said - if a character is a white male, he can have depth, character development, etc, whereas minority and female characters by and large aren't given the same opportunities.

It started when I was in kindergarten, and I was so proud I did not have to go to Bingo class, unlike my friends, because I could speak good English -

although I had no idea what a yellow dog that could spell had anything to do with Chinese.

(I figure out now that it was probably called Bilingual class)

I am lucky. I speak...

It's really disturbing to me how far some people will go to defend things they like, even when it is clearly problematic.
