So, I'm back. I'm sure that nobody noticed I was gone, well, except for Bright but that's only because I annoy her places other than here wink But I'm back and better than ever, or some other tired worn out cliche.

Since we last spoke I've been laid off, rehired at a $2/hour raise, signed a new lease for the fall with a new roommate of the female persuasion(who is truly no more than a roommate), and enrolled in college for the fall, so I've been a busy little beaver. The job situation is kind of insane, as the company I work for was sold to another larger company in the same field(pretty standard evil corporate merger there). The purchasing company informed me on a Tuesday morning that my services(along with those of my future roommate) would no longer be required. The old company did say they were giving two weeks severance though. So I told my old boss that I needed to change my address so the severance check would go to the right place. That's when things got surreal.

My boss says "Actually, I need to talk to you two(indicating my future roommate) anyway." He takes us in to his office and says "Officially you are being fired and you will be getting your 2 weeks severance, but I'm also going to hire you back within the week or two to do a 6 month project to finish up our A/R around here. It's going to be a $2/hour raise with a bonus at the end of the 6 months that will be substantial, as in probably half a year's pay." So, at that moment we realized that we had just been, in effect, given two weeks paid vacation before being brought back to the company at a higher salary. So that seemed to work out pretty good for me smile

I also cleared it with him that I go part-time in August when school starts up and was able to get my entire 15 hour schedule on M-W-F, so I'm actually doing pretty good in that department too. Except I absolutely hate the actual work involved in my job. As an adamant socialist, forcing people to pay their bills isn't something that I easily do. I feel a little like I've sold my soul for this position, so...I really don't know what to say about that.

I just finished reading Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser which is fabulously disturbing. Now I've moved on to What's the Matter with Kansas? by Thomas Frank which seems quite apropos for me, being as I was born and raised in Western Kansas, the most conservative part of a very conservative state, but as many have learned I am far from conservative. I highly reccommend both books, at least so far.

Well, I guess that's all for today.

they want you!

it feels so good when a corporate job actually does something nice for you.

welcome back to the site! i actually did miss you!

Fast Food Nation is perfectly described by the phrase "fabulously disturbing."

i need to read What's The Matter With Kansas, but i'm having a hard time starting it, because i just barely got to this state, and i'm in the process of falling in love with it. maybe i'll wait until winter. heh.
